Lexmark's print-art.com website won the prestigious 'Jury Favourite' prize at a major French e-business awards night at the end of March. It was the site's alluring combination of fine art and cutting-edge technology as well as its innovative search engine technology that caught the eye and the imagination of the judges. "Lexmark is very proud that our print-art website has won the 'Jury Favourite' prize," said Michel Dermont, vice president and general manager, Consumer Printer Division, Lexmark Europe. "The desire to create the website arose from our passion for printing ideas and the age-old need to communicate through the power of images. We feel this prize rewards our efforts to promote the arts and the printed image." The attractive and well-designed site brings together the best of the arts world and features a multilingual semantic search engine based on software developed by French IT company Arisem. The search engine allows users to find the most relevant and up-to-date arts-related information available on the Internet. With over 6,000 art-related websites already referenced and classified, and many more being added every week, users have access to everything from in-depth analysis of paintings and artistic movements to practical information such as where to buy museum tickets or art supplies. The site is also soon to provide access to images of many of the world's most well known works of art. Print-art.com's unique mix of art and technology has already proved so popular around Europe that German and Spanish language versions are currently being developed and are set to go on-line before the summer. The awards night was the climax of a three-day world congress called "Net2001: An e-Space Odyssey" organised to encourage the use of the Internet and e-commerce around Europe. Supported by many of the biggest names in the IT industry such as IBM, Cisco, Oracle and Sun Microsystems, the event was sponsored by the European Commission and the French government, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry. French President Jacques Chirac was the event's official patron. About Arisem About Lexmark
